More about this wine

The Château Montus Red is a powerful and full-bodied Madiran wine, predominantly made from the Tannat grape, known for its deep color, firm tannins, and significant aging potential. It is produced by Alain Brumont on steep, pebbled slopes in the South-West of France.

Terroir
Steep slopes with rounded pebbles over a subsoil of brown and orangey clay layers. The warm, south/southwest exposure helps ripen the thick-skinned Tannat grapes.
Yields
Very low yields, typically 5 to 6 bunches per vine.
Harvest
Grapes are harvested manually.
Vinification
Maceration for 3 to 6 weeks, fermentation at 28°C in wooden vats, with punching down of the pomace cap. Malolactic fermentation is performed in wooden vats or barrels.
Aging
Aged on fine lees in oak barrels (60-80% new oak) for 12 to 14 months.

Tasting notes

Eye
Deep, intense ruby, with an almost black core and purple hues.
Nose
Complex notes of black fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant, plum), spices (black pepper), liquorice, and subtle hints of oak or biscuit.
Palate
Powerful, structured, and full-bodied with a velvety, enveloping texture and fine, well-integrated tannins. It has a long, persistent, and elegant finish.

Food pairing
This robust wine pairs well with equally full-flavored, rich dishes:
Grilled or Roasted Red Meat, duck confit, mushrooms, cassoulet and other rich stews, Strong Cheeses.
Service
Decant at least 1h before service.
Built for aging; recommended for drinking from 2024, but can be cellared until 2040 or beyond.
