More about this wine

OISEAU RARE is emblematic of the identity and style of the old Grenaches at MAS AMIEL estate.

Vineyard and Terroir
Our heritage, a conservatory of old Grenaches, the oldest of which date back to 1914, is MAS AMIEL’s pride and joy. We are committed to the transmission and the consolidation of their identity across generations.
OISEAU RARE reflects at once the landscape and the terroir of MAS AMIEL. Like an origami, it sums up an array of vineyard plots. With its perfect selection of the different terroirs, MAS AMIEL asserts a pure, precise, complex and energetic style.
The Old Grenaches from our conservatory plots are trained with Goblet system.
A generation of organic and biodynamic growing was required to reveal the location’s natural balance. Our approach to agriculture, organic and biodynamic practices aims to create a wine reflecting the schist terroir.

Winemaking and Aging
Hand-picked, manual double sorting of the grape bunches on a conveyor belt and a vibrating table, destemming.
Plot by plot wine making in stainless steel vats. Natural yeast, without winemaking additives or SO2. Gentle winemaking with an infusion, entirely respecting the textures of the fruit and the soil.
Maturing in concrete vats until bottling without any addition of SO2. Very light SO2 adjustment just before bottling.

Tasting notes

Eye
Deep garnet.
Nose
Fresh and juicy aromas of grapes, followed by a basket of fresh strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. This is a fragrant wine where notes of dried rose petals combine with wild cherries and rockrose. It then offers a trip into a sappier, aniseed and mentholated universe.
Palate
Multi-dimensional like origami, this wine’s fruity palate is creamy and mouth-watering with finely grained tannins. The mineral taste is therefore offered by the terroir’s rocky terrain.

Service and Pairing
Perfect match with tagine, beef stew and monkfish roasted with smoked bacon.
