More about this wine

Ange 2001 pay tribute to the birth of Ange, Xavier’s son, but also a great vintage.

Between 2001 and 2010 Xavier gradually and patiently set aside the finest base wines from the 2001 vintage which he sources from his partner winemakers. These little gems were reunited in our ageing cellars in Châteauneuf-du-Pape before being blended by Xavier on the day of Ange’s birthday in July 2019 to make a single cuvée. The result can finally now be tasted!

Terroir
Representative of the four main terroirs of the AOP: rolled pebbles in the North, La Crau in the East, Urgonians (limestone) in the West, and sandy soils in the South.
Winemaking
Traditional vinification with extended maceration, designed to preserve freshness and build structure.
Ageing
This wine had a unique aging process: the individual base wines were aged in oak barrels from 2001 to 2010. They were then blended and continued to age in barrels (some submerged in wine to preserve fruit freshness) until they were bottled in 2019.

Tasting notes

Eye
A still youthful ruby color, medium to deep with a garnet rim.
Nose

Palate
Rich, medium to full-bodied, multi-dimensional, layered, and elegant. Features notes of black plum, cassis, tobacco, smoke, coffee grounds, and a long, seamless, sometimes chocolatey finish. Tannins are fine-grained, well-integrated, and provide a velvety texture.
